Abstract
Introduction: Endoscopic surveillance for esophageal varices (EV) is part of the routine workup for individuals with portal hypertension. High-risk esophageal varices (HR-EV) represent a relevant morbid condition for this population. Recently, spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) has been suggested to stratify patients with EV. We aimed to assess the accuracy of SSM for the detection of HR-EV in individuals with portal hypertension undergoing surveillance endoscopy.
