Use of edible alginate and limonene-liposome coatings for shelf-life improvement of blackberries

•Sodium alginate and limonene-liposome based edible coatings tested on blackberries.•Sodium alginate coated blackberries had lower respiration and weight loss during storage.•Limonene-liposomes coated blackberries had lower mold incidence compared to alginate coated berries.•No differences in total polyphenol and anthocyanin content between coated and uncoated berries.
