Residue behavior and risk assessment of afidopyropen and its metabolite M440I007 in tea

•Tea residue behavior of afidopyropen insecticide and its metabolite was studied.•Afidopyropen dissipated faster in tea during the rainy season than the dry season.•Low infusion rates of afidopyropen and metabolite M440I007 were noted.•Afidopyropen is recommended for pest control in tea gardens due to low health risk.
