Effects of psychiatric comorbidities in persons with epilepsy on recurrent emergency department visits

•Retrospective study analyzed 160 patients who presented to the ED with seizure.•In patients with epilepsy, those with concurrent psychiatric disorders have more ED recurrence.•In patients with epilepsy, those with concurrent psychiatric disorders have less follow-up opportunities.•Need for ED providers to shift clinical practice to offer more follow-up opportunities.
