A Submarine Hydrothermal Origin of Banded Iron Formations from Archean Kiriburu-Meghahatuburu iron ore deposit, Singhbhum Craton, eastern India

•BHJ-hosted high-grade iron ores at Kiriburu-Meghahatuburu belongs to oxide facies iron formations.•The geochemical signatures of iron ores are consistent with the Superior-type BIFs.•A polygenic-hypogene-hydrothermal and modified supergene origin is proposed for the iron ores.•The enrichment process was aided with lithological and structural controls forming high grade ores.
