Abstract
In this paper we present a new multilayer filtering antenna (Filtenna) array by using distributed coupled-resonator topology. The main purpose is to integrate both antenna and filter into a single module with multiple functions. The PCB-based multilayer substrate integrated cavity (SIC) resonators are effectively adopted to achieve a low profile, compact and high performance antenna array with filtering functionality. The cavity-backed patch antennas and SIC resonators are utilized to implement a 2 × 2-array antenna with a Chebeshev filtering response. For demonstration, a Ka-band Filtenna with fourth-degree selectivity response suitable for 5G communication links and phased array systems is designed and fabricated. The fabricated Filtenna consists of three separate PCB-layers, which is enabling a cost-effective and fast manufacturing process.
