Abstract
A series of functional Merrifield resins modified with aromatic aldehydes and ketones were successfully synthesized and evaluated for adsorption of 2-amino-4-acetylaminoanisole (AMA). Salicylaldehyde grafted Merrifield resin (SAPS) showed the most efficient adsorption performance for AMA. Batch adsorption and desorption experiments were carried to evaluate the operation conditions, adsorption mechanism, selectivity and reusability. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of SAPS for AMA was 167 mg/g, obtained at pH 7, 40 ??C for 120 min. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and the adsorption isotherms were appreciably described by the Freundlich model. Thermodynam-ics demonstrated an endothermic process. SAPS resin could be reusable up to 8 times with nearly 97% efficiency. Finally, AMA with 99% purity was obtained by the application of SAPS as adsorbent for the separation of AMA from real industrial solution.
