•Gridded ecological footprint(EF) are important for fine-grained ecological analysis.•We propose GeoUNet for high resolution mapping of EF.•GeoUNet is a novel end-to-end model using hierarchical features.•Spatial and temporal features of gridded EF are revealed in Northern China.
