Livelihood status of small-scale fishermen and determinants of their income: Insights from north-eastern floodplains of Bangladesh

•Livelihood assessment index (LAI) of small-scale fishermen is estimated.•Fishermen lack training, are prone to disease, have limited income and savings.•Fishermen's financial and physical capital indexed lowest and highest, respectively.•Age, fish catch per day, training and NGO membership influenced their income.•They need training on AIGAs, proper sanitation facilities and credit supports.
