Preparation of superamphiphobic stainless steel surface by laser and perfluorooctanoic acid treatment

•A superhydrophobic and oleophobic 304 stainless steel surface was prepared by laser etching and low surface energy of PFOA aqueous solution treatment.•The superamphiphobic 304 stainless steel sample possessed self-cleaning ability and outstanding stability.•Under certain wear, the treated 304 stainless steel surface still retains good superamphiphobic.
