Abstract
The higher soft tissue contrast and more extensive tissue characterization properties of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) than computed tomography (CT) makes it a valuable tool, not only for neurologic, musculoskeletal, abdominal, and cardiac indications but also for thoracic indications. Thoracic MRI can be used to diagnose indeterminate intrathoracic lesions on CT noninvasively and to delineate extent of disease and invasiveness of masses undergoing evaluation for surgical resectability and surgical planning. Awareness and employment of its capabilities will improve patient management and care.
