Mechanical and corrosion properties of nano-tin enhanced PEO coatings on cast Al-Si alloy
MATHEMATICS EDUCATION AND LEARNING AIP Conference Proceedings(2022)
Abstract
The effect of titanium nitride nanoparticles (TiN NPs) added to the electrolyte on the mechanical and corrosion properties of oxide layers formed by plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in the "soft sparking" mode on cast 356.0 Al-Si alloy was investigated. It was found that the addition of TiN NPs in small concentrations (0.5 and 1.0 g/l) results in approximately 1.5 times higher hardness and corrosion current densities and wear of PEO-formed oxide layers lowered by about 3 and 2 times, respectively. A further increase of the concentration of TiN NPs (up to 3 g/l) has no effect on the properties of the obtained PEO coatings.
