•The present manuscript provides an effective approach to modeling limb ischemia.•The research data confirm occurrence of the pathology in the limbs of laboratory animals.•The proposed model may be used in cardiovascular surgery and will allow further testing of new medications designed to treat ischemia of lower limbs.
