摘要

•The number of farms that use cow-calf contact is predicted to increase.•This study identified what rearing practices are used on cow-calf contact farms.•We observed a large variation in housing, management and daily contact time.•Distress at weaning and separation and building constraints were primary challenges.•Our results help identify innovative solutions to challenges with cow-calf contact.
