摘要

•ELM was hybridized with four optimization algorithms for ET estimation.•The SSA-ELM models had higher accuracy than the ABC-ELM, PSO-ELM and GA-ELM.•The accuracy of the SSA-ELM models was better than the modified empirical models.•An ET estimation model during growing periods is recommended for spring maize.
