Temperature dependence of shear transformation zone volume and plasticity in bulk metallic glass

•Positive temperature dependence of STZ volume and activation energy is formulated based on physical model.•Negative temperature dependence of shear band density and significant improvement of plasticity at lower temperature is demonstrated.•Experimental results of plasticity fit well with the prediction of the analytical formulation.
