Abstract
•Incidence of the total number of fractures was not higher in type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients during the first 8-9 years of disease.•The distribution of these fractures did differ between patients and controls, in particular in the women.•After correction for weight the incidence of the total number of fractures was increased in patients with T2D•In T2D patients the elevated BMI can be a protective factor for developing (osteoporotic) fractures.
