•Intact GIP response was associated with bone anti-resorptive effect of glucose ingestion.•Perturbed incretin response may contribute to CF-related diabetes and bone disease.•The ‘gut-bone axis’ is a potential mechanism that underlies nutrition and diabetes-related threats to bone health.
