•Turmeric leaves powder as a potential biosorbent for biosorption of Cr(VI)•The maximum monolayer capacity using Turmeric leaves powder was 165.56 mg g−1.•Various kinetic and isotherm models has been done during adsorption study.•Overall study shows that Turmeric leaves powder could be an efficient biosorbent.
