Childhood odontogenic myxoma
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology(2022)
摘要
Odontogenic myxoma is a benign odontogenic mesenchymal tumor. It is the third most frequent odontogenic tumor, with a recurrence rate of about 25%. An 11-year-old female patient referred to an infant hospital presented an asymptomatic facial asymmetry noticed 6 months earlier. Intraoral examination showed a lesion in the right posterior region of the maxilla, with an expansion of the vestibular bone board, without ulceration, mucosa-like in color. Computed tomography revealed a hypodense lesion, with extensive bone involvement, in the right maxillary region, with a displacement of the 18-dental germ, involving the maxillary sinus, orbital floor, and nasal cavity. A biopsy followed by histopathologic analysis revealed a benign nonencapsulated neoplasm, composed of spherical and spindle cells, in a myxoid stroma with varying amounts of collagen. The diagnosis was an odontogenic myxoma. Enucleation was performed with vigorous curettage of the lesion margins, with no recurrence observed in 2 years of postoperative follow-up.
