Detection of canine circovirus in dogs infected with canine parvovirus

•Faecal samples (n = 203) from Iranian dogs were screened for canine circovirus (CanineCV) and parvovirus (CPV).•Thirteen dogs (6.4%) tested positive for CanineCV DNA, all being detected in co-infections with CPV.•CanineCVs from this study were phylogenetically closer to foreign strains rather than to other Iranian strains.•CanineCV may exacerbate the clinical course of other pathogens of the canine enteric tract.
