Wireless communication technology based on gamma ray

Radio waves of conventional radiofrequency (RF) communication systems cannot pass through certain media due to frequency limitations and insufficient penetration capabilities. With this background, we propose a wireless communication scheme that uses higher energy gamma rays. In this approach, radioactive isotope sources and high-frequency motors are used to perform signal modulation transmitter, and scintillator detectors are used to perform signal receiving demodulator. A prototype system is built based on the proposed scheme, and the working principles of each component of the prototype and the communication protocol used are introduced in detail. The 241Am source with an activity of about 6 mCi was selected, and the communication experiments of the prototype under different communication rates, communication distances (in the air) and thicknesses of aluminum alloy shielding layers are performed. The study results show that under the condition that the bit error rate is less than 10−3, the maximum communication rate that the prototype can achieve is 100 bps; At a communication rate of 100 bps, the maximum communication distance in the air that the prototype can achieve is close to 60 cm, and the thickness of the aluminum alloy shielding layer that can penetrate is close to 25 mm; The distance of communication and the thickness of the aluminum alloy shielding layer that can be penetrated can be increased by reducing the communication rate; At a communication rate of 50 bps, the maximum communication distance in the air that the prototype can achieve is close to 120 cm, and the thickness of the aluminum alloy shielding layer that can penetrate is close to 45 mm. The possibility of using gamma rays to penetrate the electromagnetic shielding layer to realize wireless communication is successfully verified.
