Abstract
•A theoretical model is proposed for Bloch waves in a soft lattice.•The coupled modes are converted into easy modes by finite stretching.•Mode evolution is governed by effective shear modulus and length of the component.•The broadest directional bandgap is observed for equi-biaxial stretch.•Theoretically predicted flat bands do not exist in real soft lattices.
