Effects of land use on the hydrologic regime, vegetation, and hydraulic conductivity of peatlands in the central Peruvian Andes

•We studied three Andean peatlands with different intensities of livestock use.•Plant community differences are related to water table and hydraulic conductivity.•Land use and climate influence the peatlands' physical and ecological functioning.•The peatlands had similar origin but different modern trajectories due to land-use intensity.
