Abstract
•Motor-generator pair (MGP) is proposed as a novel way for grid-forming (GFM).•Improved feedback control of MGP can realize the power sharing with inverters.•Models and power angle stability reveal the inherent differences of different GFM technologies.•Current limitations and control delay restrict the transient stability of GFM inverters and generators.•Experimental results are presented to validate the stability enhancement of MGP.
