Removal of Cerium from Wastewater Based on Polymer-Enhanced Ultrafiltration Technology through Polyethersulfone- g -Poly( N -vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) Modified Membrane

In this paper, we prepared the modified polyethersulfone- g -poly( N -vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) ultrafiltration membrane by gamma-ray irradiation in a homogenous solution. The cross-section and surface micromorphology of the membrane prepared with different polyethersulfone mass fractions were analyzed by scanning electron microscope. Meanwhile, based on polymer-enhanced ultrafiltration technology combined with our self-made membrane performance testing system, the effects of polymer/metal ion mass ratio and pH value of the aqueous solution on membrane permeation flux and Ce 3+ rejection rate were analyzed. According to these experimental results, a reasonable complexation reaction between polyethyleneimine and Ce 3+ , and the mechanism of the membrane’s separation of Ce 3+ from an aqueous solution were proposed.
