Evolutionary Description of Heart Transplantation and Heart-Lung Transplantation in Congenital Heart Disease

•The number of patients with congenital heart disease reaching adulthood is increasing. In selected cases, cardiac or heart-lung transplant is indicated.•The total number of heart and heart-lung transplants seems to have stabilised in recent years.•Congenital heart diseases are the only etiology where there is a progressive increase in the number of transplants, probably in relation to the good results.
