The importance of green spaces in urban areas with high pollution. The case of Atitalaquia, Atotonilco de Tula and Apaxco, Mexico

In the municipalities of Atotonilco do Tula, Atitalaquia (Hidalgo) and Apaxco (State of Mexico) there is an environmental problem due to pollution from various sources of industrial and urban origin. In addition to the lack of application of environmental legislation, which mitigate the impacts of industries, the lack of attention to urban planning and specifically to the provision of green areas, does not contribute to mitigate the problem of pollution. The objective of this work is to carry out a characterization of the problem of study, which allows problematizing in order to find solutions in the aspect of the provision of green areas. To this end, the statistical variables of location of urban areas, land uses, records of emissions of polluting substances and location of green areas arc analyzed. As a qualitative approach to the study, a focus group was applied to determine the main environmental problems and then a survey in which the perception of green areas and the value that the population assigns to them as potentiators of improvements to their health and the environment were investigated.
