Tracheal obstructive mastocytoma in a pony

A 15-year-old pony gelding was presented with a history of dyspnoea with inspiratory and expiratory noise for 1 week. An upper airway respiratory endoscopic examination revealed two tracheal masses, the largest one being located on the distal third of the neck, occupying almost all of the tracheal diameter. Surgical removal undertaken was in two steps under endoscopic guidance. First, scissors and Babcock forceps inserted through a tracheotomy incision were used to sever the masses. Then, a diode laser was used to cauterise the resection sites. Gross examination and histopathology confirmed a diagnosis of tracheal mastocytoma.
