•The results revealed a spherical morphology in the range size of 10–50 nm for AuNPs.•The IC50 of AuNPs and BHT against DPPH were 18 and 12 µg/mL, respectively.•It seems the recent nanoparticle may be use as a novel therapeutic drug in future.
