Karenia brevis bloom patterns on the west Florida shelf between 2003 and 2019: Integration of field and satellite observations

•A practical approach developed to integrate field and remote sensing data to characterize Karenia brevis blooms (red tides).•Strengths of both datasets combined to describe bloom patterns on the west Florida shelf.•Two periods of 2005 – 2007 and 2014 – 2018 were found to have large cumulative bloom size.
