Investigation on flow distribution of supercritical natural gas in a printed circuit heat exchanger

•A simplified two-dimensional model is proposed.•The flow maldistribution of a PCHE plate is investigated.•Backflows, vortex and thermo-properties result in differences between two models.•Mass flow rate of 0.45 g/s presents the most even flow distribution.•The proposed simplified model can meet the requirement of engineering accuracy.
