Abstract
•Antioxidants are needed for neutralizing free radicals.•Quercetin (QCT) is an important plant-derived antioxidant.•Direct relationship exists between the antioxidant potential of QCT derivatives and number of free hydroxyl groups.•Bioavailability of QCT can be improved with the use of nanoformulations.•Superior efficacy of nanoformulations lies in their ability to overcome physiological barriers.
