Red cell distribution width to serum albumin ratio as an early prognostic marker for severe acute pancreatitis: A retrospective study

•The RDW-to-ALB ratio is a new indicator to predict the SAP.•The RDW-to-ALB ratio has the advantages of simple, easy to obtain and high prediction performance.•The RDW-to-ALB ratio have a promising predictive power for the SAP, and its effectiveness is comparable with Ranson, BISAP and MCTSI scores.
