Role of engineered nanomaterial in food safety of agricultural products

In recent years, development of nanomaterials and their wide range of applications have garnered a lot of attention among researchers and scientists. A variety of new nanoparticles have been designed to improve food quality and safety, crop development, and environmental monitoring. The growing number of applications of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) result in their discharge into the environment and to agricultural fields, with unknown impacts on crop species. This may lead to various health complications via nanofood consumption. The present chapter covers the existing research on applications of ENMs in food and agro industries and their toxicity profiles, which could further help researchers to implement potential food safety measures in controlling the health hazards. It also discussed the health complications caused by exposure of ENMs to plants and highlights the limitations.
