Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IIα heterozygous knockout mice show electroencephalogram and behavioral changes characteristic of a subpopulation of schizophrenia and intellectual impairment

•Mice with heterozygous deletion of CaMKIIα gene were hypoactive and displayed less anxiety-like behavior.•CaMKIIα-hKO mice displayed strong impairments in long term memory.•CaMKIIα-hKO mice had increased amplitude of late component ERPs and prolonged latency.•CaMKIIα-hKO mice showed increased amplitude of theta frequency oscillations.•CaMKIIα-hKO mice displayed spontaneous spike wave bursts.
