Mediation analysis of recovery-focused therapy for recent-onset bipolar disorder

•Recovery focused therapy (RfT) for bipolar disorder reduced positive self-appraisal of hypomanic experiences and self-stigma 12 months post baseline.•The impact of RfT on personal recovery at 6 months was mediated by improved self-esteem and post trauma growth.•Potential mediation effects of self-appraisal and self-stigma on personal recovery merit.further exploration.•Targeting self-esteem and post trauma growth may be helpful in enhancing personal recovery in bipolar in services.
