Psychometric properties and factor structure of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale 10-item short form (CES-D-10) in Aotearoa New Zealand children

•The 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale (CES-D-10) is a widely used self-report tool for assessing depressive symptomology but factor structures remain largely inconsistent.•Confirmatory factor analysis showed that CES-D-10 consists of one-factor without the ‘hopeful’ item in Aotearoa New Zealand children.•CES-D-10 is an adequate, reliable tool to screen for depressive symptoms in children.
