Synthesis, experimental and theoretical characterization of a new copolymer bearing pyrrole and anthracene units

•New pyrrole and anthracene-based copolymer is synthesized by oxidative polymerization.•The prepared material exhibits an ordered phase of low crystalline.•The experimental optical band gap is found to be 2.76 eV while DFT calculated is 3.37 eV.•DFT calculations are performed to characterize geometry and electronic properties of the synthesized material.
