摘要

•Pyrolysis of wood was studied at different temperatures followed by quenching in water.•The physicochemical properties and pyrolysis behavior of biochar samples were investigated.•Using TG-MS, the stepwise character of wood pyrolysis showed.•Changes in the surface morphology of the samples studied by SEM.•The behavior and composition of biochars produced up to 350 °C and above are fundamentally different.
