摘要
•Remains from at least seven pigs interred in an Early Islamic-period pit.•The pit remains differ from comparable dispersed remains at the site.•Abundant abnormal molar wear and defects suggest stressful captivity conditions.•This occurrence is peculiar at a time of prohibition on pig consumption.•Archaeological and historical data are considered in order to explain the finds.
