•Gold nanocluster & indocyanine green (QAI) was designed to cure intracranial MRSA infection through DK, PTT and PDT.•QAI exhibited great advantages in liver, kidney protection and avoiding bacterial drug-resistance in long term usage.•QAI had the certain effect on reducing bacterial inflammatory damage and protecting neurons.
