The Dark Septate Endophyte, Phialocephala fortinii J2PC4, Mitigates Southern Rice Black-Streaked Dwarf Disease and Impacts the Mortality of White Back Planthopper

•Phialocephala fortinii J2PC4 promoted the growth of rice, and had biocontrol effect to against Southern rice black-streaked dwarf disease and white-backed planthopper.•The mortality rate of WBPH was increased after feeding on rice plants treated with P. fortinii J2PC4.•Inoculation of P. fortinii J2PC4 can effectively reduce the disease incidence of SRBSDD in the rice plants.•Larval production by WBPH was reduced after feeding on rice plants inoculated with P. fortinii J2PC4.
