摘要
In the current research, friction stir welding technique was employed to weld AZ61 magnesium alloys. The study's purpose was to assess the effects of post welding heat treatment (PWHT) on FSW joints of Mg alloy. FSW butt joint of AZ61 Mg alloy was given a heat-treatment (at 260 degrees C for 15 min) and its impact on the mechanical properties and grain structure of weld has been examined. After PWHT, the grain structure of the joint was superior. The microhardness across the weld was reduced and the hardness profile became relatively smooth. The minimal hardness location towards the advancing side joint was the tensile failure region. The tensile specimen failed at nearly the identical locations on the weld's advancing side, and indeed the failure mechanism was ductile. The failure spot was unaffected by PWHT. Strength (tensile) and percent elongation of welded joints have been enhanced. The increasing ductile nature further reduces the impact energy of the joint. Copyright (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
