A single-input extended multilevel inverter based on switched-capacitor with reduced number of devices

•A novel single-input extended switched-capacitor multilevel topology is proposed.•The proposed topology effectively reduces the number of devices.•The H-bridge is eliminated and the voltage stress of the semiconductor is reduced.•A comprehensive comparison with existing topologies is carried out.•Simulation and experiment verify the feasibility and validity of the inverter.
