Abstract
•The fundamental contribution of this paper is the analysis of austenite–martensite phase transformation process, studied with online Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) technique, applied on specimens subjected to uniaxial monotonic tensile tests up to failure.•It was determined that the direction of the deformation of the specimens, 0° and 90° related with their rolling direction, strongly influences the amount of martensite phaseproduced.•In the Fourier Power Spectrum analysis, it was observed that in the 0° test specimens, several peaks of different amplitudes were distinguished for various frequencies. The peaks were decreasing in amplitude and they disappeared as the load increased. In the 90° specimens, a single peak and small oscillations were observed, and they were attenuated as the deformation and rigidity of the system increased.•In all the tests it was observed that as the applied load increased, less MBN excitation current was needed to reach the MBN maximum.•The MBN progressive increase with the increasing deformation was verified, according to the increase of the fraction volume of the martensite phase.
