Input shaping with an adaptive scheme for swing control of an underactuated tower crane under payload hoisting and mass variations

•We propose an input shaper with an adaptive scheme for swing control of a tower crane.•The algorithm based on neural network is capable to adapt to the system changes.•Experiments show that the input shaper is robust under parameter uncertainties.•The shaper performs better that a robust extra insensitive shaper.
