摘要

•Near-stoichiometric ytterbium difluoride microcrystals were synthesized.•Vapor-based comproportionation reaction synthesis was applied.•Layer-by-layer growth of crystal planes on the surfaces of YbF2+x aggregates was observed.•Microhardness and ionic conductivity of YbF2+x crystals were investigated.
