Abstract
The strain DIAZ-5, capable of efficiently degrading diazinon was isolated from soil. DIAZ-5 was identified as Bacillus alcalophilus based on 16S rRNA and the analysis of morphology as well as physiological and biochemical characteristics. The optimal pH value and temperature for strain DIAZ-5 to grow were pH8.0-9.0 and 35 degrees C, respectively. The degradation efficiency of diazinon (50 mg/L) by strain DIAZ-5 could reach 71.0% in 3 days. Strain DIAZ-5 also had a high tolerance to diazinon and could tolerate at least 1000 mg/L of diazinon. In addition, strain DIAZ-5 had been successfully developed into a microbial agent that could be used to treat diazinon residues in soil. It was believed that strain DIAZ-5 could be used to control diazinon pollution.
