Antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects of benzyl caffeate on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM): In vitro and in vivo models

•Benzyl caffeate inhibits the proliferation and tube formation of endothelial cells.•Benzyl caffeate reduces the number of newly formed vessels in chick embryo chorionic membrane models.•Benzyl caffeate induces apoptosis via activation of proapoptotic signaling.•Benzyl caffeate exerts its antiangiogenic effects through induction of endothelial apoptosis.
